February 24, 2012:
LGI Land is the owner and developer of Fisher Mountain Golf Course and Resort outside Franklin, WV in Pendleton County. We have been exploring the opportunity to bring a casino to Pendleton County and Fisher Mountain. LGI purchased The Highlands Golf Course and surrounding land in 2007. Shortly thereafter, the development was renamed Fisher Mountain and a master plan was designed for the development, which included acreage homesites, small homesites, golf villas, cabins and remodeling the existing golf course clubhouse. An owner's clubhouse with pool, tennis courts, and other amenities was also planned. After a successful first year of construction and sales, the development felt the slowdown of the real estate and financial markets. The Highlands Golf Club is still in operation and now with 72 property owners at Fisher Mountain, LGI is seeking alternative ways to reinvigorate sales and fulfill the need to create a tourist destination in Pendleton County.
LGI researched and sought out a highly-respected casino management company. We felt very strong that for a casino to succeed in Pendleton County, we needed to find the right partner that was successful in markets similar to Pendleton County and the Town of Franklin. We were very fortunate to find Full House Resorts. Full House specializes in providing consulting, development and management of small and rural market casinos. Lee Iacocca is a principal owner in the company and on the Board of Directors.
With the support of various state representatives,
Senate Bill 664
has been introduced to support the passing of a casino.
